Nobody has a definition of solved in medicine. Without one there is no way to say what is left, no way to rank it, and no way to tell a year later whether anything moved. The list of diseases already exists and is open; so does the burden data. What doesn't exist is the column in between — for each disease, where does it stand?
Nordstern is an attempt at that column. Each record answers two questions — do we understand it, and can we do anything about it — and never stores a verdict: "solved" is derived from the axes, so it is a calculation you can argue with rather than an opinion you can't. The loop it is meant to close: measure where we are, take something off the queue, solve it, re-measure.
