das Laufbild — the moving picture: a mechanism shown one scene at a time
The languages say what is true about a mechanism. A film says look here, now. Laufbild is a set of one-off teaching films, each a stepped sequence of scenes: every scene animates in from the last, stops, shows its caption, and waits. Nothing moves on its own.
Three rules hold. A film is a view of named files — every scene says which model and which rule it shows. Captions come before pictures — a film starts as a script of one sentence per scene, reviewed before anything is drawn. And anything past the models is dashed — a scene that draws what no file says is marked beyond, drawn dashed, and listed at the end. A film never fills a hole quietly.
Experimental — the first film, built for the author as its first viewer. Scenes marked beyond draw what no model in the family says; the film closes with the list of them.
